More To Come…

Hello everyone!

This year, for the first time in…well…ever, I made a New Year’s Resolution.

For a while now, I have been fighting with myself on giving up on my creative endeavors.  I happened to fall into a little bit of a hole, and I didn’t seem to be able to get out of it.  Long story short, I was uninspired – and that upset me.

However, I have come to realize that I am who I am, and part of Paul is the art.  Because of this, I have made the resolution to dive head first back into everything I do creatively.

I know it’s March, and resolutions are supposed to start in January…whoops, don’t judge me.  This just means that you’ll soon see a LOT more of me and my work.  Sometimes it will be my photos, sometimes it will be blogs and writings, and sometimes it’ll even be some digital art.

I am back, and man does it feel good.  It’s who I am.

A Little Slice Of Utah

IMG_0695

Still one of my favorite places, and still a place I almost didn’t make it to.

I was terribly sick, and just wanted to take a nap.  However, I sucked it up, and drove into the quiet park nested next to the Great Salt Lake.

It was quiet, peaceful, and just what I needed.

It will forever be one of my favorite places.

Last Man Standing

IMG_1331

I really do love the nature we have around here in Ohio.  Truthfully, it sure does make my life a lot easier when it comes to capturing a unique photo like this one.

I realize I have a style, and to some this may look similar to works I have produced in the past, but to me each one says something just a little different.  For instance not pictured in this photo is the entire field behind and around this plant.  It was flat, dead, swampy, and generally unappealing.  However, right in front of me was the last standing flora in the field.  Winters are tough around here, really tough, but even that won’t break the stride of everything.

We can have a lot of ups and downs, especially now.  However if you stand tall enough, and just be patient, you’ll be just fine.

Lost Cabin In The Winter Woods

IMG_1326

Ohio has tons of beauty, you just have to go looking for it in the winter woods.

We’re very thankful here in Ohio to have one of the greatest National Parks right in our backyards, and we sure do love to take advantage of it. With just a little hike, you can stumble upon some great scenery, and peaceful tranquility.  It’s great for the mind and body, and something I will always cherish about home.

The best part is that it’s never static.  With the dramatic seasons in Ohio, that means you also get dramatic shifts in the land, trees, shrubs, and everything else nature has to offer.  Sometimes the sky can be dreary, leaving a sense of mystery over the woods.  Sometimes it can be as hot as the desert, and warm you to your core.  Every time you enter the parks in Ohio, it’s a different story.

I almost moved from Ohio once, and I think about that a lot, and what I would miss.  Sure, it’s not sunny and beautiful California.  It’s Ohio – and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Sunrise on 2020

IMG_9598

January is an odd time.  It signals new beginnings while also ending eras, decades, and periods.  It’s a time of being excited about what is to come, but also can be saddening to think of all the things that have passed.  Ironically, photographs are all things of the past, since you really have no clue what is coming next, not even the next hour.  It can be a time of anxiety, but thankfully not for long.

All long nights end, sunsets always come again, and the fun part is that you really have no clue what to expect – no matter what you may think.

When this photo above was taken somewhere in South Carolina, I had no idea I was even going to go out and see the sunrise that morning.  It was only a sudden decision after waking up in the middle of the night for some water.  Maybe this is what 2020 will be like.  Surprises, but good surprises.  Only time will tell.

Symmetry Above All

IMG_9630

Over the years of working on this website and updating my galleries, it has quickly become apparent to me that I love symmetry.

It can be found anywhere.  In nature, architecture, or even on a pier above a swamp.  Why I have been so fascinated with it makes no sense to me other that the possibility that I love order so much.

Maybe this says something about me, maybe it doesn’t.  Either way, you can’t deny the total relaxation symmetry gives you.

Skies Over The South

IMG_0344

Almost like something out of a movie, the South really was a beautiful place to be.  Until this trip to South Carolina, I had never even touched this part of the country in an airport.

Much to my surprise, I was greeted with beautiful sights, history, and a sense of relaxation I have never really experiences before.  Forgetting the brutal humidity, and it was brutal, this is a trip I will never forget.

There is so much more to offer here, and I will for sure be back.

The Quietest Place In The World

IMG_0663

There really is something to be said about solitude – especially with how much it can relax you.

Unbelievably, this was a spot on the Great Salt Lake that we almost skipped on our adventure. We were incredibly jet-lagged, and honestly quite sick.  However, we stuck to the plan, and ended up in the quietest place I have ever been.

Even with the staggering mountains above, the the waves of the lake, there wasn’t a sound in the world.  Which actually DID make it easier to spot any bison that were getting JUST a little too close.

Easily one of the best spots on the trip itself, the unbelievable beauty from this lake is something I will never forget.  Maybe next time we won’t be there at low tide…

Architecture Of God

IMG_0719

Going to Salt Lake City, it is almost mandatory that you check out some of the beautiful churches that rise up in the, actually quite small, downtown.

No matter what religion you fall into, it’s hard to believe that such a beautiful building would exist without a creator.

As for the image itself, I have always wanted to try my hand at a reverse photo, with the main subject being a reflection.  Finally, I was able to give it my all with this photo.  The church stood high above a refection pool.  Thankfully, I was also blessed with an picturesque day with plenty of sunshine.

Oddly enough, shortly after this photo, I got suck in a parade downtown.  Imagine that.

Final Sunset

IMG_1136

Every once in a while, I will snap a few photos of what is right in front of me, and not really realize what I have captured until days – or weeks – later.  I loved going to this beach, “Lands End,” to be particular.  It had a sense of privacy even though it was only moments from downtown San Francisco and the bustle of the city.  This all is captured in this one photo.

Until I returned to Ohio two weeks later, I didn’t realize how magical the sunset was on this final leg of my West Coast trip.  It was an area of San Francisco that was perfect, it really captured Northern California in a nutshell.

To be totally honest, I thought San Francisco would be packed everywhere you went, but I had a delightful surprise.

It was a nice area to escape to, no matter who you are.
